It's interesting how I look back at high school and remember a time when I almost joined the Marines. I most definitely would not enlist at this point in timegiven the state of things in this war we're in, but I can't shake this desire I have to serve my country in any way I can. So, without joining a branch, what can we civialians do? Certainly, things aren't perfect here in the US, whether we tend to give that impression or not. I can't take a short road trip to Atlanta, GA without bearing witness to homelessness, nor could I step out of class at the Univeristy of Wisconsin without being approached by a panhandler. Surely there's something that can be done.

Although my single voice would have difficulty making a difference on it's own, I know as a SiSTAR, I am a part of a team that can and will tackle a problem to help those in need.

I'm no where near rich, so I can't build buildings to house the homeless.

I don't know how to operate a business, so I can't own my ouwn youth center.

I don't have a medical degree, so I can't provide medical assitance without cost to those in need.

I CAN build bridges with my Brothers and SiSTARS and together we can move mountains!

I'm interested in getting my Chapter to volunteer more with mental health clinics, nursing homes and hospice facilities; homeless shelters, food banks, the March of Dimes, American Red Cross ad the American Heart Assoc. (how awesome would it be if a number of Chapters would have it's memebers commit to become CPR/FA/AED certified?) . . .what a difference we would make!
